..and Away We Go!

No turning back. This is it. The day we have dreamed about…

We are in the airport, ready to board our 5:50 AM flight to Baltimore, MD. This is more exhilarating than my last free-fall (my only free-fall) from my sky-diving jump-master named “Chance!” (No, I am not kidding!) I am incredibly excited, anxious, scared, and yet there is a sense of calm. We have prepared for this day. We’ve researched, studied, practiced, purchased, and anticipated what our life will be like for the next few months. I know that we will have weather delays, draft concerns, mechanical issues, rode-and-anchor tests, and wind challenges along the way, but this will be all part of the journey. If my Emergency Nursing career taught me nothing else, it was to be flexible, creative, innovative, patient and always prepare for the worst and hope for the best. (God bless my earliest mentors, Dorothy Clonts and Joan Bondshu, for this wisdom.)

I want to thank our USPS mentors for helping us get this far: Sid and Mary Abbott, Jim Scaccia, Russ Kaiser, Heinz Klose, and Jennifer Andronas, along with all the members of the Sacramento Power Squadron. Without their support, I would reluctant to start this journey.

  1. We’re so excited for you! The anticipation has been great and the preparation thorough. You are so deserving of this adventure – a blessing to walk in for all the servitude you’ve bestowed on others. We cannot wait to hear more about your joy along the way and live vicariously through you both. Lots of love!
