Another amazing day!
With excellent wave and wind reports we departed Cape May and entered the Atlantic Ocean. Winds were calm and the waves were 3 to 4 feet, enough to feel “tippy” in our upper flybridge, so we chose to navigate from the lower helm. Still, we were on THE ATLANTIC OCEAN!
There was a cute little Tugboat next to us at South Jersey Marina that took off before us. We passed him up about half way to Atlantic City. We also passed some large sailboats. For a short while, we saw some dolphins. I tried to get a picture, but they were too far away, and I had trouble steadying my camera.
We stayed at Farley State Marina (attached to the Golden Nugget Casino) which also hosts the United States Coast Guard. We tied up to an end slip and prepared to rest until our second meet-up with JoAnn and Scott. Jo called early and we caught an Uber to her location, close to the boardwalk. We took the scenic boardwalk route to Harry’s Oyster Bar for a mid-afternoon snack. Navigating the boardwalk was a task as it was graduation day for Stockton University students and there were hundreds, maybe thousands, of black robes and dressed-up family members!
After our cocktails and hors d’ouvres, we walked to our next venue: Dock’s Oyster House to connect with Scott. Oh, if walls could talk! Established in 1897, this famous restaurant is still family-owned. The service was impeccable, which is why they have served the rich and famous for more than 120 years!
Next we were off to The Palm, another family-owned establishment. (Gonzi & Bozzi) We enjoyed signature cocktails and met some “regulars.” Daughter/Niece Caroline joined us for dinner. There’s the “837 Club” for loyal customers, with some interesting perks. The most loyal customers enjoy a characature painting on the restaurant walls. We located Robert Fritz, Sr, and Robert Scott Fritz on the wall of fame. (Photo in “gallery” below)
After an amazing dinner, we hit the casino. Our cash lasted about an hour. Then it was time to bid another farewell to Scott, JoAnn and Caroline, and we caught another Uber to our marina. A good night’s sleep helped us get ready for the New Jersey Inter-Coastal Waterway (NJICW). This would prove to be a challenging segment of our trip. (See next post, it gets exciting!)
