Launching "Reverie."

Plattsburgh & Burlington

We arrived to Plattsburgh a day later than anticipated. We were held in Chicago for nearly four (4) hours. (LaGuardia was closed due to thunderstorms.) We finally arrived to NY well after 9:00 PM. We had planned on a five (5) hour drive to Plattsburgh but this was no longer practical.

Execute Plan B: find local lodging the first night. Pete secured a room at the Thayer Hotel on the campus of West Point. Yes, THE THAYER!

As much as we wanted to linger and explore this historic site, we hit the road early to get to Plattsburgh and see our Mainship “Reverie.”

Recommissioning was already underway (thanks to Captain Al Gonzalez and the staff at Plattsburgh Boat Basin.) With intermittent downpours, we installed the canvas, set the flybridge cushions, prepared the bicycles, stocked some initial pantry items, and squeezed in a terrific dinner at the Naked Turtle Restaurant on site.

The next day we waited…and waited…for an opening in the weather and the boat lift. It was close to 3:00 PM when we got the word that we’d be put in, despite the rain. Pete was relatively comfortable in the flybridge, I was line-handler. We could have stayed on the boat but we didn’t have water yet and I wanted a hot shower, so we spent our last night at the hotel and officially moved aboard the next morning.

We motored two hours south to Shelburne Shipyard early Friday to greet the lead supervisor to coordinate some maintenance and repairs.

The Soltis/McKee guests (Carrie, Danielle, Conor, and Ruairi George) met us at the Burlington Farmer’s Market on Saturday, 6/22/19. I met baby McKee (“RG”) for the first time! As the “West Coast Mom” to Dani and Conor McKee, I felt an immediate kinship to this baby. He is the spitting image of his Papa with an easy disposition, a credit to his Mama.

With about a week’s worth of work scheduled on the boat, we decided to hit some spots we might otherwise miss. You’ll hear about our land travels in the next post.
